Heat, Hummers, and Stealers are Bob Owens Monday Night Winners

The Stealers Doc Cintron races to the bag for out number three.Wyatt Heat, the Seaborne Stealers and the National Guard Hummers all claimed victories in the Bob Owens Slow pitch softball league Monday night at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park. The Heat burned a feisty Cartel squad 16-12, the Stealers won by forfeit over the Warriors, and the Hummers knocked off the Dirty Dozen, 21-16 in the nightcap.

Heat 16, Cartel 12
Wyatt Heat got a scare in Monday’s opener from the Cartel, which had fallen on hard times so far this season. However they showed glimpses of old as they gave the third-place Heat a good fight before coming up short. It was the Heat with 16 runs on 18 hits and two errors, while the Cartel finished with 12 runs on 14 hits and three errors. The winning pitcher was Dexter DeSouza, while Dave McFarland got the loss for the Cartel.
Top batters for the winners were Steven Rosario (3 for 3 with 5 RBIs) and Max Velasquez (3 for 3 with four RBIs). For the Cartel, Darren Lewis and James Smith were both 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs apiece.

Hummers 21, Dirty Dozen 16
The last-place Dirty Dozen gave the National Guard Hummers a run for their money, but in the end the Guardsmen had a bit more firepower and came away with the 21-16 victory. The Hummers plated 21 runs on 18 hits and three errors, while the Dirty Dozen finished with 16 runs on 16 hits and four errors.
Roman Cruz got the win on the hill for the Hummers, while Denny Denton got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Sylvester Blake (4 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs) and Canobal Encarnacion (4 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Jeff Elvins was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Luis Viera was 3 for 3 with one RBI.

A Final Note
In Monday’s second game of the evening, the Seaborne Stealers won by forfeit when the game was called in the bottom of the third inning after one of the Warriors players had to leave the game due to illness. With the Warriors now unable to field 10 players, the umpire awarded the game to the Stealers.
