Friends of the Park to Hold Online Fund-Raising Auction

In a departure from its usual practice of combining its annual gala and auction, the Friends of V.I. National Park will hold the events separately, with an online auction scheduled to run Dec. 5 through Dec. 20.
"We’ve got some great items," Friends Development Director Noreen Cavanaugh said.
Those items include a two-night stay at Biras Creek Resort on Virgin Gorda, a three-night stay at Caneel Bay Resort on St. John, a catered dinner, jewelry, boat trips, and artwork.
Cavanaugh encouraged people to check the Friends website regularly during the auction because items will be added as the auction progresses. She said that currently the Friends has about 15 items listed, but she expects more to be included before it begins.
"All the items are valued at more than $200," she said.
Cavanaugh views the online auction as a way for people to do holiday shopping just like they’d do on ebay or other online websites. She said it’s also an opportunity for people not used to online shopping to "join the fun."
She sees separating the auction and the gala, which will be held Feb. 6., as a way to keep the party flow going at the gala.
The Feb. 6 gala, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will be held at the Great Cruz Bay home of Janet and Martin Marshall. Cavanaugh said that Diageo will sponsor the bar.
Both the online auction and the gala raise money for Friends’ projects and activities.
