The Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation kicks off the 2009 Thanksgiving Basketball Classic on Wednesday at the St. Croix Central high gymnasium at 5 p.m. sharp. The tournament, in its third year, will run through Saturday, Nov. 28, with all games after the opening day starting at 6 p.m.
There will be three divisions in this year’s tournament, two for the boys and one for the girls. The boys division is made up of an 18 and under, and a 15 and under division, while the girls will compete at 18 and under. Each boys division has eight teams while the girls division has four for a total of 20 teams in this year’s event.
The action starts with four games scheduled for opening day with two games each contested in both boys’ divisions. Game one of the U18 division will see the Kings and the Lakers kicking things off at 5 p.m., Zion plays Hands in a U15 contest, followed by Boys Dem and Dread I in another U18 matchup with Looking Ahead and Mo Fire closing out the evening in a U15 contest.
The girls do not start play until Friday morning.
