Basic Skills Program Helps Improve Test-Taking Abilities

A newly developed program is designed to assist Virgin Islands residents improve their basic skills in order to obtain employment or move up in the workplace. The Skills Builder program is geared towards individuals who are required to pass an entrance exam for employment or must take a promotional exam in order to advance in their current careers. The program is also ideal for anyone interested in enhancing their reading, writing or basic math skills.

The course, which is being offered by the University of the Virgin Islands- Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center, will be held from 6-9 p.m., every Thursday, beginning Oct. 1, at the UVICELL Center on St. Thomas.
Participants will learn effective problem solving and critical thinking skills, techniques to enhance reading comprehension, and they will be guided on ways to improve their writing, math and test-taking skills.
Financial assistance may be provided for qualified individuals through the V.I. Department of Labor, and V.I. Veterans may enroll in the class free of charge.
