Shootings Injure Two at Frederiksted Fish Market, Birthday Party

Police are investigating two shootings that took place Sunday morning and Monday afternoon on St. Croix in which two men were injured.

The Frederiksted Fish Market was the scene of a shooting at about 5 p.m. Monday when a 46-year-old man was wounded by gunfire, according to a police press release.

According to witnesses, a black Chevy S-10 pulled up to the fish market. A man got ut of the vehicle and fired two shots toward the victim, striking him twice. The individual then got back into the vehicle and left the area.

Police responded to a call of shots fired in the area and found that the victim had been transported to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital by private car. Criminal Investigation Bureau and Forensic detectives as well as crime scene technicians arrived to process the scene and interview witnesses.

Police later detained a person of interest, but as of Tuesday afternoon the victim had been unable to provide police with a positive identification due to his medical treatment.

The Investigation Bureau is following up on this case and, according to the press release, expects an arrest to be made shortly.

Police are also investigating a shooting that happened at 1:47 a.m. Sunday in Estate Mount Pleasant.

According to the initial report, police were told that a birthday party was being held at the residence when shots were heard. A private vehicle took the male victim to Luis hospital. Police on the scene collected several spent shells for evidence and interviewed witnesses in the area.

Police who went to the hospital could not interview the victim, because he was under sedation and being treated for his injuries. The victim was shot in the upper body and continues to receive medical attention at the hospital.

The case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Police urge anyone who has information on either shooting to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 712-6077, 712- 6037 or the anonymous crime tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
