Frenchtown Will Celebrate Father's Day Weekend

The Committee for the Betterment of Carenage has organized and will host the Carenage community's annual Father's Day weekend celebration in Frenchtown. As it was last year, the celebration village will be staged at the parking lot that sits to the north of the former Normandie Bar, now Betsy's Bar and Restaurant, and west of Joseph Aubain Ball Park.
An opening ceremony is set for 7 p.m., Friday, June 19, which will feature the crowning of Miss Carenage 2009, Kimberly Brin, who is a junior at All Saints Cathedral School. Following the brief ceremony, Cool Session Brass will entertain. On Saturday night, Milo's Kings and Sweeta' Band will provide non-stop music beginning at 6 p.m.; on Father's Day, Sunday, June 21, the festivities get going around 4 p.m. with music by Top Notch, featuring Dr. Bernard Liburd, and at 9 p.m., Cool Session Brass will return to the stage for the finale.
The Father's Day festivities will get underway early on Sunday, June 21, with a series of softball games at the Joseph Aubain Ball Park. The games will pit teams from the Northside against teams from Frenchtown. At 8 p.m., awards will be presented to the winners of the Mother's Day and Father's Day fishing tournaments, including the top prize of $2,000 cash for the overall winner in the Father's Day Fishing Tournament.
To foster a smooth flow of traffic through the Frenchtown community during the celebration, parking will be allowed in the outfield of the Joseph Aubain Ball Park on the nights of the celebration.
