Brief: 5 Local Graduates Receive Byrd Scholarships

June 6, 2009 — Lennox Brian Mark, Marquis A. McGregor, Krystel Newton and Kurrisa Vialet, graduating seniors from the St. Croix Educational Complex, and Kwame Garcia, Jr., a graduate of St. Joseph's High School, will receive Robert C. Byrd Scholarships this year.
St. Croix District Superintendent Gary Molloy announced the recipients Friday. The Robert C. Byrd Scholarship is a four-year scholarship for graduating students who have been accepted to a college or university for attendance in the fall.
As part of this program, the five Byrd scholars will receive awards of $1,500 per year, which can be renewed for a maximum of eight consecutive university or college semesters upon submission of required evidence showing maintenance of eligibility.
