Dear Ms. Lohr, I am Larry Sewer, Zaid's uncle. I read with pride your article @ School: Zaid Sewer. I immediately reflected to the time when Zaid was a 6th Grade student at the Guy Benjamin School at Coral Bay. It was during the month of February and as you know, it is the time when all efforts are directed primarily on the accomplishments of Black People.
It was late that evening when the phone rang. The voice on the other end said. "Uncle Larry, I have to present a report on Black history and I have selected your living history to be my report. Would you present your life story as my report?"
On the day that I was to present, Zaid and I coordinated my departure time from St. Thomas and my arrival time to his classroom. Upon my arrival, he greeted me at the door. I instructed him as to the format to use when presenting me to the teacher and to his classmates. The manner in which Zaid presented himself was the forerunner to what has been demonstrated to date.
It must be noted that unlike most families on Sin Jan who are fortunate to have the elderly Senior Citizens as checks and balances, the grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc. of the late Captain Victor Sewer only have children to serve as pillars of strength for the family.
Zaid, the torch has been passed, continue sharing with lil O, Jasim, Benika, and all the other Sewers who will ring your phone in the twilight of your years, Uncle Larry.
