May 21, 2009 Anyone with a computer connected to the internet now has access to Virgin Island's legislative information, including contacts, schedule and even bill tracking.
The V.I. legislature's website has some really easy to use and helpful features. You can search information about legislation that applies to you, your family or your business or issues that are important to you. In addition, if you want to get in touch with your legislator, all senators' and their staff's phone and fax, email addresses are now available through the directory page legislature's website,.
Searchable access even extends to bills, with the website's new tracking feature. This easy-to-use feature is available for bills that have been enacted as well as those working their way through the process.
To look up a bill, you need some basic information, but not a great deal. From the home page, click on the blue "Bill Tracking System."
For example, say you know that Peter Holmberg was awarded some kind of commendation by the last legislature and you want to look up the date that the it was introduced.
In the legislature field, you click on 27 (signifying the 27th Legislature,) and in the subject field you type in Holmberg, then click the search button and boom, up comes the information that Holmberg was awarded the Virgin Islands Medal of Honor, along with the bill's sponsor, the date it was introduced as well as the request type and resolution number.
Clicking on "calendar" takes users to a two-week legislative calendar.
Anyone with a computer anywhere in the world can visit our website and electronically gather as much information as possible on each of the Senators or on pending legislation stated MIS Director Emanuel ONeal in a release from the legislature. As we continue to develop our website, we will include additional information such as amendments and press releases.
