Non-Profit Organizations Realize Benefits From Economic Stimulus Package

March 23, 2009 – The Department of Human Services will host an informational meeting for non-profit organizations (NPO) about prospects affiliated with the Economic Stimulus Bill from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Wednesday, March 25, at the University of the Virgin Islands Great Hall, St. Croix Campus.
Representatives from over 80 NPO's that provide a great number of social services to the territory will learn about available funding needed to sustain their business. Attorney Peter Hiebert, legal counsel to Governor John P. de Jongh Jr. in Washington, D.C., will lead the daylong discussion on the stimulus and its effect on the function of NPO's, according to a press release from the Department of Human Services.
In addition to the governor's attendance, officials from the non-profit board and Chief of Staff Brian J.G. Lachance of the United Way will discuss best practices for board governance.
Human Services Commissioner Chris Finch is focused on making this an annual non-profit networking forum.
