Diamonds Pummel Cobras 18-4 in Big League Baseball Action

March 11, 2009 — The Diamonds crushed the Cobras 18-4 Tuesday night in Elmo Plaskett Big League Baseball action at the D.C. Canegata baseball field to push their record to 2-1 on the season.
The Diamonds' starting pitcher, Chaquille Joseph, was dominant in throwing two perfect innings before being relieved by Jose Alicea to start the third inning. Alicea also held the Cobras scoreless over his first two innings of work as the Diamonds sprinted to an 18-0 lead after four innings.
The Cobras were finally able to get on the board with four runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to pull within 18-4. That would eventually be the final score, as the game was called at the end of the Cobra innings by way of the 10-run mercy rule.
Alicea got the win in relief of a strong showing by Chaquille Joseph. The Diamonds finished with 18 runs on 15 hits and no errors, while the Cobras scored four runs on four hits and committed four errors. Top hitter for the Diamonds was Deon Thomas, who went 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. For the Cobras, Nelson Guzman went 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs.
The action continues at 6 p.m. Friday with the Cobras taking on the Reds.
