Corneiro Family/Seven Arches Museum Scholarship Available

Feb. 13, 2009 – The Corneiro Family Seven Arches Museum Scholarship is granted each year. The scholarship is open to all Virgin Islands high school and college students and is open in all fields of study provided that the student maintains at least a 2.5 grade point average (GPA). The scholarship amount is $207.
Applicants must submit a 350-400 word essay from one of the topics listed below:
· What I consider to be the most important Virgin Islands landmark.
· What I consider to be the most important event in Virgin Islands history
· Who I consider to be one of the most important person(s) in Virgin Islands history.
· What I am personally going to do to help preserve our Virgin Islands history and culture.
Applicants must also submit a genealogical family tree. The family tree should include information such as the applicant's ancestor's names, dates of birth, places of birth and dates of death if deceased. (Note: The family tree assignment is designed primarily to get the student to start thinking about and asking questions to their elders about their ancestry and heritage).
The deadline for applications is April 30, and the scholarship will be awarded in July.
The eventual winning applicant hereby grants permission to have their name and essay posted in the local media and on the official Seven Arches Museum Web site (www.sevenarchesmuseum.com).
An awards ceremony and presentation will be held at the Seven Arches Museum on St. Thomas to recognize the scholarship recipient for their contribution to preservation of V.I. history and culture, and to celebrate the museum and house's 207th year in existence.
