Housing Authority Offers Workshops on Money Management and Leases

Feb. 6, 2009 – The Virgin Islands Housing Authority offers a six-week series of workshops to assist residents who are habitually late paying their rent. The classes will provide information that may help them to avoid the next step in the eviction process.
Workshops are mandatory for those residents who must comply with HUD's community service and self-sufficiency requirements, according to a press release from V.I. Housing Authority Director Irma F. Hodge.
The workshops are scheduled to begin the week of Feb. 17, and will focus on:
1) Understanding your rights and responsibilities under your lease
2) How to budget and stretch your money
They will be conducted from 6-7 p.m., as follows:
St. Thomas District–Tuesdays at Estate Tutu High-Rise Community Center; Thursdays at Oswald Harris Court Community Youth Build Center
St. Croix District–Mondays at Walter I.M. Hodge Community; Wednesdays at John F. Kennedy Community Center.
The workshops are conducted in collaboration with Legal Services of the Virgin Islands Inc. and coordinated by Attorney Shelby King Gaddy. All residents are encouraged to participate.
