Against the Tide Swim for Breast Cancer Planned

Feb. 3, 2009 – The 7th annual Against the Tide in the Virgin Islands Swim for Breast Cancer will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Magens Bay. Participants may swim, snorkel or wade in the waters. Registration will start at 9 a.m.
All ages are welcome. Registration fees are $10 for adults and $5 for anyone under 17 years old, including small children. All payments must be made in cash. Medals will be awarded to the first 100 finishers. Medals will also be given to first male, first female, youth and adult finishers in the categories of swimmers, fins and waders.
Special awards will be given to business and community teams as well as school teams with the most participants.
The event will raise money to assist breast cancer survivors who may need financial assistance for medical care and to aid in medical research. The Virgin Islands' Against the Tide began in 2003 as a family event where every member of the family can participate as a swimmer, a swimmer using fins, or a wader who merely walks in the water or totes someone along on a float.
For information, contact Event Director Gayle A. K. Deller at 774-0352 or 643-6319.
