I had the distinct pleasure of working for Mr. Rodney Miller in 2002, and was awestruck with his leadership, vision, drive and tenacity. We all know that Mr. Miller was instrumental in attaining JHCHO accreditation for your hospital, but it was the intangibles that Mr. Miller brought to the hospital staff that most impressed me. With unwavering dedication, Mr. Miller led the RLS hospital in a direction that it had never been. He brought a level of professionalism to the RLS hospital using phrases like "world class organization" and other mantras that helped define the hospital's rise to glory.
Like many of you, I was deeply saddened to learn about the recent charges against Mr. Miller. While I agree that his past is not exactly an ideal background for an executive career, I will still argue that Mr. Miller is a good man and does not deserve the degree of slander and hardship being imposed upon him and his family. After all, who has not made a mistake in their youth that they have learned from? I find it sadly ironic that the man that attained a "savior-like" status for the better part of a decade is now being dismantled; likely by some of the same corrupt cronies that Mr. Miller banished to save RLS Hospital in the first place. While I agree that his salary was excessive, it was nonetheless an offer presented to him by the hospital board and was not of his own wrongdoing.
I only ask that you please respect the man and his family, and that you build on the foundation that only he has provided for the residents of the Virgin Islands. I also beg that you protect against and prevent reverting back to the same corruption and poor business practices that once defined the condition of your Roy Lester Schneider Hospital.
