VITA Holds Tryouts for Davis Cup and Caribbean Games Teams

Dec. 26, 2008 – The Virgin islands Tennis Association (VITA) will be having its tryouts for the 2009 Davis Cup and Caribbean Games teams this weekend starting 4 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 26, at the Tennis Club of St. Croix and finishing on Sunday. The Davis Cup Tie will be held the week of April 2o in El Salvador and the Caribbean Games in Tobago the week of July 13.
The players are: Kristepher Elien, Eugene Highfield, Devon Locke, Christian Nelthropp and Brian Oldfield. All the players are from St. Croix, except for Brian Oldfield who is from St. John. Brian is the Virgin islands top junior tennis player.
The schedule is as follows:
Friday: 4 p.m. – Oldfield vs. Elien; Locke vs. Nelthropp
Saturday: 10 a.m. – Locke vs. Highfield; Oldfield vs. Locke
4 p.m. – Elien vs. Highfield; Oldfield vs. Nelthropp
Sunday: 10 a.m. – Oldfield vs. Highfield; Nelthropp vs. Elien
4 p.m. – Locke vs. Elien; Nelthropp vs. Highfield (Highfield leaves Sunday afternoon and will default)
The public is encouraged to come out and watch some of the V.I.'s top players compete.
