Day-After-Christmas Party Raising Funds for Storm Ravaged Haitians

Dec. 25, 2008 – Mt. Victory Camp's annual Christmas Second Day Party has a secondary mission tacked on to the primary mission of having fun. This year Mathilde Wilson and her husband, Bruce, owners of Mt. Victory, are trying to fill a plane with supplies for Haitians in need.
This year was a particularly bad one for Haiti as it was hit by hurricanes Faye, Gustav, Hannah and Ike, one right after another. For years Mathilde, a native Haitian, has raised funds for an impoverished village in Haiti. She and her husband founded the non-profit organization Haiti Community Support.
Bruce said that the use of an airplane has been donated for a trip and now the couple hopes to fill it with donations. He wrote in an e-mail to the Source "Bring toothpaste, children's toothbrushes, and multivitamins to the event, and we'll fly them to Haiti."
The party marks Mt. Victory opening for the season and will follow its traditional formula with a start at 2 p.m. and performances by local favorites Jamesie and the All Stars with King Derby and Blinkie MacIntosh.
The camp cookout will include an old-time Crucian pig roast with chicken, green fig salads, seasoned rice and veggie dishes.
Bruce Wilson promises there will be dancing under the Mango tree. He says, "On Boxing Day it's time to get out of the house, and lime with friends and family in the rainforest."
Admission is free. The Jungle Bar will be open. A full dinner plate is $15.
Mt. Victory Camp is 1.8 miles up Creque Dam Road (Route 58) from Sprat Hall, Frederiksted. Further information can be obtained by calling 772-1651.
HCS mission is to assist the community of Au Centre/Beaumont in Haiti and its surrounding region through programs that improve education, health and the basic quality of life of its people, and eventually through economic programs that make the community self-sustaining.
