Deadline for 'The Caribbean Writer' Submissions Extended

Dec. 19, 2008 – The Caribbean Writer has extended its submissions deadline for its 23rd edition to Jan. 30, 2009. The annual anthology is produced by the University of the Virgin Islands. As usual, the Caribbean should be central to the work or the work should reflect a Caribbean heritage, experience or perspective.
Writers are encouraged to submit poems, short stories, personal essays and one-act plays. Only previously unpublished work will be considered. (If self-published, give details.) Include brief biographical information and put name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and title of manuscript on a separate sheet of paper. Only the title should appear on the manuscript.
All submissions are eligible for the following prizes: The Canute A. Brodhurst Prize for best short story ($400); The Daily News Prize for best poetry ($300); The David Hough Literary Prize ($500) to a Caribbean author; The Marguerite Cobb-McKay Prize ($200) to a Virgin Island author and The Charlotte and Isidor Paiewonsky Prize ($250) for first time publication in The Caribbean Writer.
Mail submissions to The Caribbean Writer, University of the Virgin Islands, RR 1, Box 10,000, Kingshill, St. Croix, VI 00850-9781 or submit electronically to: submit@thecaribbeanwriter.org. Electronic submissions should be sent as attached Microsoft Word or RTF documents. Please do not include submissions in the body of the e-mail.
