Brief: Repair Reopens Route 104 Near Westin

Nov. 21, 2008 — A collapsed culvert near the Westin Hotel on St. John has been repaired, and traffic is once again passing through the area on Route 104.
Public Works Commissioner Darryl A. Smalls said rains from Hurricane Omar quickened the roadway's deterioration, causing a large crater to form at the bridge of the Guiney Gut Crossing early in the week.
Public Works was able to quickly repair the collapsed roadway. “We understand the critical significance of this route to the residents and visitors to the island of St. John, and we intend to expedite the permanent installation of a concrete double box culvert to repair the collapsed roadway,” Smalls said.
