Hurricane Gustav Redirects Cruise Ship to St. Thomas

Aug. 26, 2008 — Royal Caribbean Cruises revised the itinerary of the 3,100-passenger Mariner of the Seas on Tuesday, sending the ship to St. Thomas on Wednesday to avoid newly formed Hurricane Gustav, the line announced.
The storm is expected to make landfall over Haiti on Tuesday evening and will likely bring nasty conditions to parts of Jamaica and Cuba through at least Thursday and could be over the Florida Keys by Sunday, officials said.
The Mariner of the Seas, which departed Port Canaveral on Sunday, will not visit Labadee, Haiti, on Tuesday; Ocho Rios, Jamaica, on Wednesday; George Town, Cayman Islands, on Thursday; or Cozumel, Mexico, on Friday. Instead, the ship will spend Tuesday at sea; visit St. Thomas on Wednesday; and Philipsburg, St. Maarten, on Thursday.
The ship will be at sea Friday and Saturday as it returns to Port Canaveral, Sunday, Sept. 1, as scheduled.
