July 22, 2008 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen is co-sponsoring a resolution introduced into the House of Representatives this week by Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California to honor the first annual National Clinicians HIV/AIDS
Testing and Awareness Day. "I am proud to be one of the 26 co-sponsors of the resolution, because it is important that everyone know their HIV status and most importantly the people who are our caregivers and providers, as we all band together to end the devastating effects of this disease on our communities," Congresswoman Christensen said today.
"I would like to urge physicians, physician assistants, nurses, dentists and other clinicians to get personally involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS by taking an HIV test, personally demonstrating the importance as well as the ease of HIV testing," said Christensen, who chairs the Congressional Black Caucus's health braintrust. "As the statistics now show that the majority of new infections are in the black and Hispanic
communities and that the Virgin Islands and the rest of the Caribbean have a high incidence of infection, medical personnel should set the example for the rest of the community."
Congresswoman Christensen, who is a physician by profession was last tested late last year." It is easy, and it gives everyone the information that they need to protect themselves, their families and their communities," she said.
