UVI Organizing St. Thomas Relay for Life Teams; Volunteers, Theme Needed
UVI's St. Thomas campus employees have organized a 15-person team to participate in the 2008 St. Thomas Relay for Life fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. The Relay for Life is scheduled for June 21 and 22 at Charlotte Amalie High School. Each team member pledges to contribute or raise $100 toward the team goal of $1,500. Inez Bartlett of UVI's Purchasing Department is helping to organize the effort. She said the goal now is to form a second UVI team. "We want to have a good showing," Bartlett said.
Also needed are individuals who will volunteer to support the effort. Volunteers typically help to erect and decorate a tent for shelter and provide food, drinks, entertainment and support for team members who walk the CAHS track in shifts throughout the night. An organizational meeting for all wishing to participate in the UVI effort is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, in the second floor conference room of the ACC Building. Anyone who wants to join the team, sign up as a volunteer, or suggest a theme, should contact Bartlett at 693-1482 (ibartle@uvi.edu) or Curtis Gilpin at 693-1104 (cgilpin@uvi.edu).
