Dear Source:
The nine gill-net fishers are not told to not fish, but to use traditional ways of fishing. Gill and Trammel Nets were introduced to St. Croix by the gill net manufactures that were forced out of Florida by the fishers of Florida because of the destruction to the fisheries. The little guy will be able to continue to fish and will not continue to ruin the fishery for the other fishers. The nine little guys will also be getting grant money. Other fishers in America when told they can no longer fish, they normally do not get any money.
The damage that has been done to St. Croix reefs and fish population since the introduction of the gill and trammel nets is beyond belief. We can only hope with this ban being enforced that our reefs and fish life will start to heal.
