Pedestrian Killed by Truck on Queen Mary Highway

April 5, 2008 — A 58-year-old St. Croix man died Saturday night when he was struck by a pickup truck on Queen Mary Highway near Hannah’s Rest in Frederiksted, V.I. police said in a prepared statement.
The St. Croix Traffic Investigation Bureau is investigating the death of Elias Samuel Lugo of No. 269 Campo Rico, who was struck by a white Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck driven by a resident of Estate White Bay. The accident occurred near the Hannah’s Rest bus shanty, police said.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 911 call alerted police to an accident just before 7 p.m. According to police, the victim was walking north to south, crossing the Queen Mary Highway, and the vehicle was traveling east to west.
Lugo died at the scene and his body was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital morgue after being identified by family members.
The Traffic Investigation Bureau is looking into the cause of the accident, police said.
