Dear Source:
Thank God this "cheap drama" is over and hopefully our Senators in this frivolously ridiculous lawsuit have learned a deeply important lesson in democracy (sad that I even have to mention this to our law makers!): People have a right to free speech; you better start listening to how people feel; your job is to represent their concerns; and more importantly, you have woken the public up to the way that you do business in our Senate. The "late night sneaky" passing of Bills like that of Bill #6905-to give fat raises to yourselves-without opening asking those who hire you-us-is unacceptable.
Do you think, with the state of our Territories, you STILL should be collecting this salary increase? If you do, you are out of touch with reality. There is still time for the unknown Senator blocking bill # 6905 revision, to come out of hiding. The other Senators involved with either #6905; this "witch hunt" on silencing the people; as well as any in the 27th. Legislature who is NOT stepping up to the plate to respond to this issue by staying tight-lipped better rethink their stand. The people demand honesty at this point. You have 11 months to show some leadership against what has been done, wrongly, for too long.
I am a firm believer of everything happening for the good of all ultimately, so I do thank you for your part, though self-serving, in bringing a very big light into the "darkness" of how our VI does it's business. No more. I am asking the entire citizenry of our Islands to join in demanding open and transparent government so this kind of melee does not happen again. How to solve this kind of thing from happening again?
We need sunshine laws that are passed that make everything public and accessible to the people, which it serves. With this, we can find out who is manipulating the system for personal gain or those who truly want to spend money on the many needs that we have. Open Government will promote good government.
I must also say that it is somewhat laughable, if it wasn't so scary, to read how these Senators were trying to "get Roger W. Morgan"…esp. the KKK speeches on the floor of the Legislature. Perhaps our Senators should consider taking their eyes off of others and put them squarely on their own selves… your behavior is too often unacceptable. And to the people of St. Croix, esp. Roger W. Morgan, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your courage and integrity to stand behind the people who are either afraid of voicing their concerns or have lost total hope in the government is greatly appreciated by those who love these Islands and want to see positive movement. Your strength in "hanging on" amidst a lot of personal attacks on behalf of what is right has taught us all a great lesson. Change CAN be made by the least of us. We are the government. Let's start working to find honest people for Senatorial positions who can do the people work come Nov. 2008.
