CCT Auditions for Musical 'Chicago'

Oct. 26, – Caribbean Community Theatre will hold auditions for the hit musical "Chicago" at 7 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 5, and Tuesday, Nov. 6, at CCT. The theatre is located at No. 18 Estate Orange Grove. Annaly Babb-Guerra will direct the play with music direction by Kathleen Dodge-DeHaven. Performances are scheduled for Feb. 8-23.
CCT is one of only a handful of community theaters granted the rights to this hit Broadway musical set in the Roaring '20s. The winner of six Tony Awards, it spins the fascinating tale of murderous showgirls Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, whose imprisonment for violent crimes puts them front and center in the tabloid press of the day. Their claws are unsheathed as they compete for the spotlight; each convinced that the resulting publicity will catapult her from death row to a lifetime of fame and glamour. The show makes a compelling point about the power of the media, a concept with which we are all too familiar today. The book is by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, and music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb.
There are roles for singers and non-singers, and there are many roles for dancers. People of all shapes, sizes, colors and ages (over the age of 16) are welcome and needed. Those auditioning for a singing part should come prepared with an audition song of their choice (bring a CD or sheet music).
