Presentation on Protecting Sea Turtles Planned

Sept. 21, 2007 – How can you protect sea turtles from the negative impact of artificial lighting? Come to a presentation on sea turtles and light disorientation. Participants will learn about:
·sea turtle biology and conservation
·the impacts of coastal lighting on sea turtles
·how to implement responsible lighting that can reduce impacts to sea turtles
Claudia D. Lombard of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will make the presentation, which is sponsored by the St. Croix Environmental Association and UVI's Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service.
The presentation will be given twice, at 2-3 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the University of Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Center, room 133. This event is free of charge and all are welcome, especially coastal residents and coastal business owners.
