Faye Liburd, Wife of Former Senate President, Dies After Long Illness

July 13, 2007 — Faye Liburd, the wife of former Senate President Almando "Rocky" Liburd, died at the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center late Thursday night after a long illness.
In a news release issued Thursday evening, Gov. John deJongh Jr. and Lt. Gov. Gregory R. Francis extended their condolences to the family, noting that Faye was also the daughter of the well-known culture bearer Dorothy Elskoe.
DeJongh spoke with former Sen. Liburd and conveyed the sympathies of the people of the Virgin Islands and those of the governor and lieutenant governor’s families, according to the release.
"It is always difficult when death occurs, but the Liburd and Elskoe families should be reassured that Faye's long suffering is over," deJongh said. "We pray that their burden of sorrow is somewhat lightened by the fond memories that will live on forever. May she rest in peace."
Funeral services for Liburd are pending.
