Brief: Officials Meet to Discuss Creating V.I. Crime Lab

July 9, 2007 — The territory doesn’t have a crime lab, and several government officials met Friday to discuss creating one, according to a news release from the office of Sen. Shawn-Michael Malone.
“I believe this endeavor will take a collaborative effort from both the executive and the legislative branches,” Malone said, according to the release.
Attending the meeting at Government House were Attorney General Vincent Frazer, Police Commissioner James McCall, Law Enforcement Planning Commission Director and Drug Policy Advisor Meredith Nielsen and the V.I medical examiner, Dr. D’Michelle DuPre, in addition to Malone.
“It will enable us not only to store DNA, but also conduct forensics and ballistics tests,” Malone said. “… We found that there are several federal funds available for these projects, as well as the possibility of a public-private partnership.”
