Brief: One Runaway Taken into Custody, One Still at Large

April 25, 2007 — A 12-year-old runaway male minor was located and taken into custody Wednesday on St. Croix. Another male minor is still being sought by authorities.
Leroy Simon, age 12, was found Wednesday afternoon in the Mutual Homes community in Estate Grove Place. Simon told police that neighborhood residents gave him food and that he slept in cars at night. Juvenile Bureau Detective Claudette Sutton reported that Simon is coherent and appears to be in good health.
Simon and Shawn Benjamin Jr., 14, ran away from a Department of Human Services facility on Saturday, April 21. Benjamin remains at large; however, police continue to receive calls from concerned citizens, who reportedly have seen Benjamin in the Grove Place area.
Police are asking anyone with information on the location of Benjamin to contact the Juvenile Bureau at 712-6029 or 911.
