Brief: Schneider Regional Starts Recruiting Drive in New York

March 30, 2007 — The Virgin Islands needs more medical professionals, and Schneider Regional Medical Center's (SRMC) Amos Carty Jr. hopes to find them in New York.
Carty, chief operating officer and legal counsel for SRMC, plans to visit New York this weekend to tout the new Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Center in St. Thomas. He'll address the Virgin Islands Freshwater Association, a V.I. ex-pat group, during their Transfer Day celebration in the Bronx.
“We at Schneider are so proud of the level of care we now offer to the entire eastern Caribbean region that it’s imperative we communicate these accomplishments to our friends here on the mainland,” Carty said in a written statement.
He plans another talk with New Yorkers on Sunday.
“Schneider’s Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Center is particularly noteworthy,” Carty said, “because it represents a tremendous advance in providing our islands with the excellent care every cancer patient needs without having to travel to the mainland, as was previously necessary. Today our Virgin Islanders are able to receive the best treatment while remaining on the islands, rather than leaving their homes and families at the time when these familiar sources of support are most needed.”
