Alumna Research Presentation Set Friday, Feb. 9, on St. Thomas
UVI alumna Dr. Seraphine Pitt-Barnes will present a seminar on her research at noon on Friday, Feb. 9, in Chase Auditorium (B-110) on the St. Thomas campus. Her subject will be "Perceived Parenting Style and the Eating Practices of College Freshmen." Dr. Pitt-Barnes holds a Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of South Florida. At UVI she was in the Minority Biomedical Research Support Program and spent a summer working at Cornell University with UVI professor Dr. Richard Hall. She recently accepted a position at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. For information, call Dr. Teresa Turner at 693-1382.

UVI Bookstores Set Deadlines to Order Academic Regalia
UVI's 43rd annual commencement ceremonies are scheduled for May 14 on St. Thomas and May 15, on St. Croix. Deadlines for ordering academic regalia from UVI's Bookstores are as follows:
St. Thomas Campus – 693-1561
Students: Friday, Feb. 9, is the deadline for graduating students to place orders for academic regalia
Faculty-Staff: Monday, Feb. 26 is the deadline for St. Thomas campus faculty and professional staff. Late orders will incur additional costs.
St. Croix Campus – 692-4162
Students: Monday, March 5, is the deadline for graduating students to place orders for academic regalia.
Faculty-Staff: Monday, March 5 is the deadline for St. Croix campus faculty and professional staff. Late orders will incur additional costs.

Financial Aid Office Hours Amended for Feb. 12 to 16
Hours of operation at UVI's Financial Aid Offices on both campuses will be amended during the period of Feb. 12 through 16, in order to meet processing requirements of the U.S. Department of Education. Office hours will be from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. during this period. The offices regret any inconvenience.

Constitution 2008 Forum Set Feb. 22 on St. Thomas
The University of the Virgin Islands invites the St. Thomas community to the island's first public forum in the Constitution 2008 public education campaign being conducted in support of the Territory's Fifth Virgin Islands Constitutional Convention. The program, "Constitution 2008: Come Hear; Come Share," will take place at 6 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at the Grand Ballroom of the Palms Court Harborview Hotel. All are invited to attend and participate in an exciting exchange on pertinent issues which will surround the Convention when it opens in July 2007. A news release is available on the UVI home page.

UVI students who are current recipients of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship are asked to use this website address www.thurgoodmarshallfund.net/students.asp to complete their application process. An incorrect web address was previously provided. For information, call 693-1043.
St. Thomas Campus Bookstore to Sell Flowers on Valentine's Day
The UVI Bookstore on the St. Thomas campus will sell flowers on Valentine's Day, Wednesday, Feb. 14. Pick-up orders, as well as on-campus deliveries, will be available. Arrangement prices will range from $7 to $60. For more information, call 693-1571.

International Student Handbook Available on Admissions Web Page
A handbook for prospective international students is now available from the UVI web site. The handbook is designed to help familiarize potential students with the admissions process with details of application deadlines and links to online application forms. It also features details of Homeland Security requirements. The handbook is available from the Admissions section of the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.

Commuter Student Lounge Established on St. Thomas Campus
UVI's St Thomas campus has established a lounge for commuter students in the Sports & Fitness Center. Campus Executive Administrator John D'Orazio said the move was in response to student concerns about the lack of an area to congregate on the lower campus. The Commuter Student Lounge will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays. It will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

UVI Faculty, Staff Invited to Apply for EPA Pollution Prevention Grants
UVI faculty and staff are invited to apply for grants in a 2007 pollution prevention program sponsored by Region II of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Pollution Prevention Grants Program supports state and tribal technical assistance programs that help businesses and industries identify better environmental strategies and solutions for reducing or eliminating waste at the source. Approximately $4.5 million in total program funding for fiscal year 2007 is available. Grant proposals must be submitted electronically to the EPA's grants web site no later than, April 2, 2007. Assistance with this process is available from the UVI Office of Sponsored Programs at 693-1054.

Broadcast Journalist Hunter-Gault to be 2007 Heath Series Speaker
Award-winning journalist and long-time foreign correspondent Charlayne Hunter-Gault will be the featured speaker for the 2007 Alfred O. Heath Distinguished Speakers Series, set for 6 p.m. on Feb. 14, on UVI's St. Croix campus. The lecture will be held in Evans Center room 401 with a videoconference connection to Chase Auditorium (room B-110) on the St. Thomas campus. St. Croix Campus Health Services to Offer HIV/AIDS Screening on Feb. 14
The Health Services Center on UVI's St. Croix campus will offer free HIV/AIDS screening from 10 a.m. to noon, on Wednesday, Feb. 14. The confidential screening will be conducted by Carmen George of V.I. CARE, a non-profit testing organization, at the Health Services Center in the Great House. Results will be available the same day. For more information, call Irene Sealey at 692-4208.

Trivia Week Set on St. Croix Campus to Mark Black History Month
The Offices of Student Activities and Campus Advisement Tutorial Center on UVI's St. Croix campus will host Black History Month Trivia Week, from Feb. 19 through 23. Trivia questions will be posted on the monitor outside the Business Office each day. Responses must be emailed to hfinch@uvi.edu or usemper@uvi.edu before noon. Winning entries will be raffled and prizes will be awarded daily.
