Toys for Tots Tourney Gets Holidays in Full Swing

Oct. 6, 2006 — Thanks to a record turnout and solid support from area businesses, the 11th annual St. Croix Marine Corps Associations Toys for Tots Golf Tournament recently raised more than $11,000.
Once again the St. Croix business community made this the most successful tournament ever, said Carl Gotts, former Marine and co-director of the tournament.
A record 135 golfers, drawn by the near-perfect weather and great cause, turned out for the Oct. 1 event at Carambola Golf Course.
The tourney was a real success, boasting nine hole-in-one sponsors for $10,000 each and over 70 raffle prizes (most valued at well over $100) from scores of local restaurants, retail stores, hair salons and resort hotels.
Gotts also thanked the staff and management of Carambola Golf Course and the Green View Restaurant for its professionalism and grace under fire in successfully handling the record crowds.
Tournament co-directors Jim Davenport and Dick Mooney thanked the participants and sponsors and invited them to mark their calendars for the 12th annual tournament next October.
