Litter and Beautification Grants Available to Youth Groups

May 5, 2006 – The St. Croix Foundation launches its Litter & Beautification Initiative to provide St. Croix youth groups opportunities to beautify their community while earning money for group activities.
Funded by a donation from West Indian Co., this program awards up to $2,500 in grants to groups, depending on the location and length of their litter collection.
Youth groups have the option of conducting a one-time cleanup of a local roadside, beach, playground or vacant lot, or they can identify an area that needs periodic cleaning and perform a number of cleanups over time.
St. Croix Foundation Executive Director Roger Dewey said, "The foundation believes that by involving youth groups in the Litter & Beautification program, we are maximizing our grant-making and doing more for our community than simply cleaning the roadsides and beautifying our beaches."
"Through this initiative, the foundation also seeks to provide constructive and meaningful opportunities for our young people to earn money for their civic groups while serving as ambassadors for the anti-litter cause," he said.
All interested nonprofit youth groups can contact Stennett Dariah at the St. Croix Foundation at 773-9898 to obtain an application or to get more information on the program.
