Medical Assistance Clients Must Renew Cards by Oct. 31

Oct. 1, 2005 – Health Commissioner Darlene A. Carty announced that as of October 1, anyone receiving Medical Assistance from the Department of Health must have their Medical Assistance cards renewed in order to remain eligible for benefits. Clients have until Oct. 31 to renew their cards, according to the office of the commissioner.
Clients who have been referred for medical assistance by the Department of Human Services are not required to renew their cards.
The Bureau of Health Insurance and Medical Assistance, which certifies clients, will be closed Oct 3-5 for staff training. It will reopen on Thursday, Oct. 6. To recertify your card bring it to the bureau at either the Knud Hansen location on St. Thomas or the Charles Harwood Complex on St. Croix.
For further information or to schedule appointments, clients on St. Croix should contact Eva Felix at 773-1311, ext. 3097. Clients on St. Thomas, St. John or Water Island should contact Karen Virgil at 774-4624.
