4-H Cross-Country Race Features Promising Runners

Oct. 11, 2004 – Juan Robles, of St. Croix Central High School, showed his talent as a distance runner on Oct. 6 at the 4-H Cross-Country series at the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Croix Campus. Robles, winner of the bronze medal in the CARIFTA 3000 meters, took an early lead on the three-lap, 5k course and finished first in 18 minutes 41 seconds; Lester Liburd, a fellow teammate at CARIFTA and of the St. Croix Educational Complex High School, was second in 23:00; Joel Vidale, a point guard on the Complex basketball team, was third in 23:48.
Sanny Eugene of the Complex and bronze medal winner in the 800 meters at CARIFTA this year led an all-Complex field of runners to first place for the girls varsity with a time of 27:46. Rosa Kerrish was second in 28:55; Jervinia Thomas was third in 28:59; Dynyce Boyce was fourth in 37:46.

Junior Varsity Girls:
1.Sissel Holloway, Country Day School (CDS) 14:21; 2. Mackiesh Taylor, ECHS 16:54; 3. Wantina Hill, ECHS 16:55; 4. Kristy Butler, ECHS 17:04; 5. Sade Balwant, CDS 18:29; 6. Carissa Felix, ECHS 20:14; 7. Clarissa Lewis, ECHS 20:32; 8. Wendy Aurelien, ECHS 23:08; 9. Michelle Gordon, ECHS 29:35; 10. Tkeshia Martinez, ECHS 29:36.
Elementary Girls:
1.Samantha Smith, Country Day School (CDS) 12:23; 2. Ruamiesha Llaxton14:01; 3. Blare Coughlin 14:21
The 4-H Cross-Series are hosted by the 4-H/Cooperative Extension Service of the UVI, St.Croix Campus, sponsored by the Boys To Men, Girls To Women Foundation, Sanctioned by the V.I. Track and Field Federation and organized by the V.I. Pace Runners.
