Founders Day 5-K Race Marks 22 Years on the Road

Oct. 1, 2004 – The St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners will hold the 22nd Founders Day 5-Kilometer Run starting at 7 a.m. Sunday. The 3.1-mile race will begin at the Fort Christian parking lot and finish at the University of the Virgin Islands' Sports & Fitness Center.
Water will be provided along the course. Walkers are as welcome as runners. The entry fee for the race is $2 for adults and $1 for youth under 18. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m.
The first running of this event took place on Oct. 10, 1982, and involved little more than the drawing of a chalk line on the ground and timing with a stopwatch. Many of the runners enjoyed the event so much that they organized themselves into STAR which, up to the present time, features a reliable annual schedule of running and walking events.
Last year's race was very fast. UVI student Ethan Kreul finished first in 16:08.91 to set a course record. Charley Charles took first for the women in 22:15.
