United Way-Chamber Golf Fund-raiser Is Aug. 15

July 7, 2004 – The first United Way of St. Croix and St. Croix Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is set for Aug. 15 at Carambola Golf Course.
The $125 entry fee includes a ticket to the awards dinner and ceremony, which will be held at the Carambola Golf Club following the tournament.
Dinner tickets are $25 for those who don't participate in the tournament.
"I think people will have a lot of fun," committee member Anna Heyliger-Hector said.
The money raised will help fund United Way's 10 charities and the Chamber of Commerce scholarship fund.
The tournament, which is to start at 12:30 p.m., will be in four-person scramble format, with two better golfers paired with two of lesser ability.
Heyliger-Hector said the committee hopes to lure some professional golfers from Puerto Rico and the mainland to spice up the event.
Prizes include $10,000 for a hole-in-one and $10,000 each for the shot closest to the pin and the longest drive. Additionally, there will be a putting shoot-out for $2,500.
The tournament is still looking for sponsors to help defray costs and to increase the money raised for charity. Sponsorship perks vary by the amount donated, but all include mention in the program booklet.
To sign up for the tournament, call Carambola at 778-5638. To sign on as a sponsor, call Heyliger-Hector at 774-1435.
