April 19, 2004 – Thirty of the territorys public school teachers in each district can receive 75 percent of their tuition toward the cost of one summer course at the University of the Virgin Islands. To qualify, the teacher should need no more than two courses to meet the Virgin Islands Board of Educations certification requirements.
The selected class must not be more than three credits, according to a press release from the department of education.
Education Human Resource Director Alscess Lewis-Brown Brown said. "Additionally, of the 30 teachers selected in each district, the Department will allow for 10 of those teachers to take a three credit graduate level course. Course textbooks, however, are the responsibility of the individual teacher."
The deadline to sign-up is May 5. Interested teachers are asked to visit the Human Resource Offices between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
No phone sign-ups will be allowed. "Teachers will be selected on a first come, first serve basis." Brown said. Brown further noted that reimbursement of total tuition costs to the Department is required in the event that a teacher fails the course.
