Oct. 20, 2003 – The National Medical Association is holding 2003 immunization conferences Wednesday on St. Croix and Friday on St. Thomas that are aimed at improving immunization practices in the territory.
The Health Department's Immunization Program is hosting the presentations, to be held at Carambola Beach Resort and Marriott Frenchman's Reef Beach Resort, respectively. The starting time is 8 a.m. both days.
The conferences are aimed at physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, private and public health-care providers, immunization registry personnel, office staff and nursing students. Health-care professionals can get continuing education credits for taking part.
Presenters include Dr. Winston Price, president-elect of the NMA; Dr. Demetrio Marcariola, a pediatrician; and Dr. Audria Thomas, a local infectious disease specialist.
Among the topics to be covered are "Immunization: A Key to Good Public Health Strategy," "Hepatitis B," "Pandemic of Influenza," "Adult Immunization" and "Negotiating through the Traffic Lights of Immunization, Administration and Prevention."
