FORMER RESIDENT EDWIN KAUFMAN HAS DIED AT 88

Oct. 3, 2003 — Edwin Kaufman, 88, died in Delray Beach, Fla., on Sept. 12, and a cremation and service were held on Sept. 14.
He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Paiewonsky; his son, James Kaufman; and his sister-in-law Kate, widow of his older brother. His wife, Madeline, predeceased him. He is mourned by the Kaufman and Paiewonsky families, said his nephew, Michael Paiewonsky.
"Eddie" served four years in the CB division of the U.S. Navy during the World War II, building airfields, under enemy fire, in places such as Iwo Jima. Later he moved to St. Thomas and was resident for many years and a frequent visitor subsequently. He and his wife spent decades in Puerto Rico where he represented the Julius Wile Company in the Caribbean and South America before his retirement.
