May 5, 2003 — University of the Virgin Islands students were honored for academic achievement and scholarship recipients were recognized at Academic Awards ceremonies held April 29 on both campuses.
On the St. Croix campus, the Fields Group class awards recognized students with the highest grade-point average in each class. The awards went to senior George Southwell with a 3.91 GPA, junior Stephen Dujon with a 3.82, sophomore Michelle Hemlepp with 4.0, and freshman Laneze John with a 4.0.
The Barnett Frank class awards were given to students with the highest GPAs on the St. Thomas campus. Seniors with the highest GPAs were Ranan Mustafa and David Titley; juniors were Bonnie Braga and Gul Raj Sachwani Daswani; sophomores were Patricia Fraites, Carissa Webster-Lake and Wade Richardson; and freshmen were Elaine Rene, Daryl Pierre-Louis and Gurnish Sahni.
Scholarships were given on behalf of Economic Development Companies, V.I. Rum and local businesses.
Outstanding students from each academic division — Social Sciences, Science and Mathematics, Nursing, Humanities, Education and Business — were recognized for their achievement.
Also receiving recognition were Golden Key Honor Society members, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges honorees and Alpha Mu Gamma National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society members.
