May 5, 2003 — A blood drive at the Juan Luis Hospital Blood Bank will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 and 17.
The sponsoring St. Croix Board of Realtors invites the St. Croix community to "Give the Gift of Life." Board members will assist staff of the hospital for the two-day event, which celebrates National Hospital Month and National Nurses' Month.
Appointments may be made at 778-6659, or just walk in.
Refreshments for all donors will be provided by staff and management of Schooner Bay Marketplace in Gallows Bay.
Realtors board president Dwain Ford has challenged individual realtors and firms by offering a special prize to those that bring in the most blood donors during the event.
Who can give blood? Any healthy individual at least 17 years of age who weighs at least 110 pounds and has not given blood in the previous 56 days.
Can one get AIDS or another disease from giving blood? No! The procedure itself is very safe, said a release. Every donation is taken from a new sterile needle which is immediately disposed of after a single use.
