Garbage, Garbage Everywhere
April 28, 2003 – Senator Roosevelt David shared an incensed reaction to the rash of garbage dotting the island's scenery. "As beautiful as our islands are, it is a shame that this beauty must be tarnished by enormous amounts of garbage that litter our road sides, empty lots and over-stuffed garbage bins."
This situation can be attributed to several things, Senator David speculated.
Garbage pick-up is very inadequate and in some areas quite infrequent. Uncollected garbage can lead to unsanitary conditions for the members of our community. He sees a lack of garbage bins as another contributor to garbage being piled high around the island.
"I believe enforcement of the Anti-Litter Laws must come to the forefront to combat this undesirable eye sore. I have seen bags of garbage left in places where a garbage bin once existed. It is clear to me that if the bin has been removed, that garbage must then be dumped at another appropriate location," Senator David continued.
In closing Senator David urged the members of our community to dispose of all garbage in a manner that will not threaten public health, contaminate our beaches, or otherwise pose a hazard to others.
