RAIN DELAYS PRINCE-PRINCESS PAGEANT FOR A WEEK

April 7, 2003 – The weekend's rain led V.I. Carnival Committee officials to delay the official start of "Music, Mas and Pageantry for Carnival 2003" by postponing Sunday evening's Prince and Princess Talent and Selection Show at Lionel Roberts Stadium.
Carnival Committee spokeswoman Lorraine Gumbs-Morton said the show has been rescheduled for next Sunday, again at 5 p.m. in the stadium.
Five young couples are scheduled to compete for the junior royalty crowns: Zaneta Francis and Liston Georges, T'Koia Richardson and Kwane Barthlett, Gemequa Bell and Jakel Bell, Jevanna Augustine and Jaime Donastorg, and LaQuanda Fredericks and K'Mani Dowe. The winning contestants will succeed 2002 Carnival Princess Resha'i Corneiro and Prince Akeem Warner.
Because of the rescheduled pageant, Gumbs-Morton said, the Toddlers Derby and Traditional Games, originally scheduled for Sunday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, also will be re-scheduled, to Monday, April 14.
For the prince and princess show, tickets in advance are $10 for adults and $5 for children; those sold for the April 6 show will be honored. Ticket outlets are Family Health Center, International Records & Tapes, Krystal and Gifts Galore, Modern Music/Havensight, Nisky Pharmacy and Parrot Fish Music on St. Thomas; and St. John Drug Center on St. John. At the gate admission is $12 for adults and $7 for children.
