UVI BULLETIN BOARD

April 3, 2003 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:
Joseph Boschulte Named UVI Vice President for Institutional Advancement
Joseph Boschulte has been named UVI's vice president for institutional advancement by President Dr. LaVerne Ragster. Boschulte, a native of St. Thomas, has an extensive corporate background as an investment banker and senior level financial officer. He was selected after a series of interviews with several very qualified applicants.
Boschulte is a 1991 graduate of the College of William and Mary. He earned a master's from the University of Virginia's Darden Graduate School of Business Administration in 1995. He is returning home to the Virgin Islands after having lived in New York, Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Humanities Festival 2003 Continues Through April 6 on St. Croix Campus
UVI's Humanities Division is conducting the "Caribbean Identity: You, Me, All ah We" festival through April 6 on the St. Croix campus. The festival opened with an evening of Latin American poetry, song and dance on Sunday, March 30. For more information call Dr. David Gould at 692-4143.
The remaining schedule includes:
— Thursday, April 3 7:30 p.m.: short story readings and short story contest awards, cafetorium;
— Friday, April 4 2 p.m.: Student Literary Conference with keynote speaker Selwyn Cudjoe, cafetorium,
— Friday 7:39 p.m.: Coffeehouse poetry reading and poetry contest awards, cafetorium,;
— Saturday, April 5: Buck Island trip;
— Sunday, April 6, 2 p.m.: short story reading by Joanne Hyppolite, cafetorium.
St. Thomas Campus Service Awards Set April 9; Remarks Deadline is Today
The 2002/2003 Service Awards program for employees on UVI's St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in the Sports and Fitness Center.
St. Croix Campus Service Awards Set April 10
The 2002/2003 Service Awards program for employees on UVI's St. Croix campus is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Room 401 of the Melvin Evans Center.
Public and Private Administrators, Teachers Invited to NASA Lab Opening
UVI's Division of Science and Mathematics invites UVI, private and public school principals, teachers, students, and community members to the St. Thomas campus for an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting of the NASA Saturday Academy Wireless Laboratory at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5. The ceremony is planned for Room 306 of the CA Building. Participation is limited to 80 individuals. For confirmation or further information, please call Dr. Rosenid Hernández-Badía at 340 693-1383.
Little Theater Spring Production of "The Merchant of Venice" opens Friday
Tickets are on sale for "The Merchant of Venice," the UVI speech communications and theatre department's spring production. The play opens Friday, April 4, with 8 p.m. performances set through Sunday, April 6, and again next April 11, 12 and 13. Tickets, which cost $5 students and $10 for adults, are available at the UVI Bookstore and the Humanities Building on the St. Thomas campus, at Dockside Bookstore in Havensight Mall, Nisky Pharmacy, and Parrotfish on Back Street. VIMAS offers Workshop in GIS Applications
The public is invited to a workshop on Basic GIS Applications for Environmental Studies at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, in room 101 of the CA Building on the St. Thomas campus.
Topics to be covered include: Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Basic Arc Explorer Applications, and Geographical Positioning System (GPS). Participants must be familiarized with the Windows operating system.
Registration for the workshop is free, but space is limited. For details or to register contact UVI Marine Advisor Mayra Suárez-Vélez at 693-1392 or e-mail her. The workshop is sponsored by the V.I. Marine Advisory Service at UVI's Center for Marine and Environmental Studies.
SBDC Offers Time Management Seminar April 8 on St. Croix
UVI's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host a time management workshop from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the UVI SBDC training center, Sunshine Mall Lower Level, St. Croix. For details or to pre-register call 692-5270.
Workshops to Focus on Changing Nature of Work in 21st Century
"The Changing Nature of the World of Work in the 21st Century" will be the subject of free workshops offered at UVI's St. Croix campus on April 9 and 10. Sponsored by the division of student affairs – counseling and placement office, the workshops will be conducted by Richard L. Knowdell, a job and career transition coach and author.
Session One is designed for working individuals, including UVI faculty and staff members and anyone seeking professional development. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Carambola Beach Resort.
Session Two is designed for high school, college and graduate students. It takes place from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, in the UVI Research and Extension Center Room 133 on the St. Croix campus.

Seminar to Focus on Developments in V.I. Fish Farming Systems
UVI's Water Resources Research Institute and the Agricultural Experiment Station invites the public to a seminar entitled "Commercial Fish Farming Systems for the Virgin Islands: Recent Research Developments at UVI" at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, on St. Croix from in the Research and Extension Center Room 133, and again on St. Thomas at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Sports and Fitness Center Training Room. Dr. James Rakocy, AES Director and Research Professor of Aquaculture, will be the presenter. For more information call 693-1069.
SBDC Plans QuickBooks Workshop April 24 on St. Croix
UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be conducting a workshop on the QuickBooks Pro 2001 computer application from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the UVI SBDC training center, Sunshine Mall Lower Level, St. Croix. Future of V.I. Agriculture to be Topic of April 22-23 Forum on St. Croix
The future of agriculture in the U.S. Virgin Islands will be the topic of a forum for farmers scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 22 and 23 in the theatre of the Melvin Evans Center on UVI's St. Croix campus. The forum theme is "Prospects for Sustainable Agriculture in the Virgin Islands." It will address issues of agricultural policy, training, funding, marketing and production. Registration costs $20 and covers materials and lunches.
All farmers, agricultural educators, policy makers and prospective farmers are invited to participate. For more information call 692-4061 or 692-4060. The forum is sponsored by the UVI Cooperative Extension Service and Agricultural Experiment Station, the V.I. Agriculture Department and Farmers in Action. More information and a registration form are available on the Internet.
