Nov. 22, 2001 – There was a little confusion a while back about where "Friday Night Alternative" would take place this weekend, but organizer Corinne Van Rensselaer makes it clear that the musical happening has one and only one home — the Marlin Deck at American Yacht Harbor, right outside the rear doors of her gallery/gift shop, The Color of Joy.
And it will definitely be taking place as usual on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. If recent turnouts are any indication, the talent pool of musicians likely to drop by and sit in is plentiful.
Van Rensselaer says the musical gatherings, which first got going last summer, are a part of what she's grateful for this Thanksgiving Day weekend. "It lifts my spirits to have the opportunity to enjoy and share such wonderful music, particularly in these difficult times of uncertainty in our world," she says. "Music, refreshments, friends and a beautiful view over the water in a relaxing, safe environment — what more could you want on a mellow evening in Paradise?"
There will be complimentary wine, cheese and crackers as usual (and no leftover turkey). And The Color of Joy will be open for those intending to indulge in the traditional day-after-Thanksgiving start of the holiday shopping season.
Also, there's one more week to buy tickets for the raffle of a moko jumbie soft sculpture by local artist Jane Ryan-Clemo. Her creation is on display in the shop. The drawing will be held at the Nov. 30 "Friday Night Alternative." Proceeds will go toward relief for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and their families.
