EARTHQUAKE FORUM SLATED FOR KINGSHILL

Elroy Harrison, St. Croix deputy director of VITEMA, has invited all emergency service coordinators, civic groups and the public to an earthquake awareness forum at 10 a.m. Wednesday on St. Croix.
The meeting will be held at the Jury Assembly Room in Kingshill.
A statement from VITEMA noted that the forum takes place during earthquake awareness week beginning March 18 and comes during a time of increased seismic activity in the region. Harrison said during December 2000, 79 tremors were recorded in the area of Puerto Rico, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. He asked all residents to include earthquake awareness in emergency plans.
Scheduled to speak are VITEMA Director Col. Gene Walker; Brent Blyden, director of the Building Permits office for the Department of Planning and Natural Resources; Bruce Swiren, National Hazards Program director for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
