ERROR LEAVES EMPLOYEES OWING ON LOANS

A paycheck processing error at the Finance Department has left government employees owing on their loans from the Government Employees' Retirement System.
A release from Laurence E. Bryan, GERS administrator, said Finance neglected to deduct personal loan payments from the Feb. 8 biweekly paychecks of all government employees who have personal loans with GERS.
Nevertheless, employees are required to make the loan payments by money order, cashier's check or certified check directly to the third floor of the GERS complex on St. Thomas or at #5 Orange Grove, St. Croix.
Bryan's executive secretary, Patricia Williams, said GERS would not accept personal checks in payment of the loans. "We had to stop that practice because there were too many checks returned for insufficient funds."
GERS members with questions are directed to call the loan department on St. Thomas at 776-7703 or on St. Croix at 773-5480.
