NEXT DA DA WINE DOWN COMING UP FRIDAY

Proprietor Rick Kingsland is pleased to present the Da Da Wine Down on Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cafe Amici located in A.H. Riise Alley in Charlotte Amalie.
The last Friday of every month, island residents and visitors gather for socializing while viewing artists on display and partaking in a wine tasting and seminar featuring various wines presented by local distributors. This popular monthly event regularly attracts up to 200 attendees.
West Indies Corporation wine presenter Brian Andre is particularly pleased to be presenting the island premiere of the wines of the southeastern Australian winery, Stonehaven, at this February event.
The exhibiting artists for February are Dale H. Applequist and Kathy Carlson.
Admission to the Da Da Wine Down is free and includes complimentary hors d'oeuvres. There is a nominal fee for those wishing to participate in the wine tasting and seminar. Everybody attending receives a ticket for the chance to win one of the many great door prizes awarded towards the end of the evening including dining certificates, wine, and art.
Dale H. Applequist has been a resident of St. Thomas since 1988 and a part of the art community for 15 years. This is Dale's first showing after a long hiatus, and is the first artist to participate in a Da Da Wine Down that lives on Water Island. The majority of artist Applequist's paintings are in oil on linen. He also has begun to work in pastels and acrylics. His work is inspired by the Caribbean colors and shapes. This exhibit will feature some of Applequist's works in oils, with an emphsis on color range and visual textures.
Kathy Carlson finds realistic painting especially rewarding. Seeing the visual world and reacting to the small nuances as well as having ideas and emotional responses to what is seen is an important part of her creative process. Many of her works portray people alone or interacting with others. Capturing the essential vital and unique character of subject is a goal of this artist. Kathy has been involved in art for many years. She has worked in pen and ink, water media and oils. She completed her undergraduate degree at Kean College in New Jersey and her masters degree at East Stroudsburg University. She studied art at the University of Buffalo and the Art Students League in New York. She is an award-winning artist whose work has been exhibited in group shows on St. Thomas as well as one person shows. She has received several commissions from private collectors. Her work is in private collections in California, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and the Virgin Islands. She is currently represented by Camille Pissarro Gallery in St. Thomas.
